Spanish MP: We Do Not Want Economic Agreements or Arms Sales to Israel

Spanish parliamentarian Teshlem Sidi said there is pressure on the government to take action against "Israel" because of the genocide it is waging in the Gaza Strip.

In a television interview, Sidi said, "The Spanish government has provided weapons, and we have agreements for arms sales and defense technology with 'Israel.' Therefore, our alliance and movement are against this cooperation, and the majority of the Spanish people stand with Palestine and against the genocide."

She continued, "We do not want there to be economic agreements or even arms sales to Israel, and we can cancel these contracts, but the pressure we are applying is not enough. Spain has stood with Palestine from the beginning and has recognized the Palestinian state."

She added, "We know this is not enough, but we are proud of what we are doing compared to other European governments. We know that Israel tries to blackmail governments with American help, and I want to send a message to all Palestinians that they are not alone, and that the Spanish government stands with them, especially the left-wing parties."

The MP went on to say, "From the beginning, we knew that what is happening is genocide, and we called it by its name. We want to apply more pressure and push the European Union to show greater solidarity with the South African government, which is making efforts before the International Court of Justice."

She explained, "Within the European Union, we are not as aligned with Israel as the United States is, but we want the EU not to allow Israel to participate in major European events, and if we stop trade with it, that would also be a means of pressure."
