The League Participates in the 38th Arab Parliamentary Union Conference in Algeria
A delegation from the League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds and Palestine participated in the 38th Arab Parliamentary Union Conference, held at the "Abdel Latif Rahal" International Conference Center in Algeria on May 3rd and 4th, under the slogan: "The Role of the Arab Parliamentary Union in Light of Regional and International Changes."
The delegation included the Advisor to the League, Al-Bachir Djarallah, the former Deputy Speaker of the Mauritanian Parliament and member of the league, Sheikhani Ibrahim Baiba, along with the General Secretary of the league, Dr. Mohammad Makram Balawi.
This participation comes as part of the league’s efforts to enhance its presence in Arab parliamentary spaces and reaffirm its commitment to coordinating parliamentary efforts in support of the Palestinian cause, particularly in light of the severe violations it is facing, including the ongoing aggression and genocide in Gaza since October 2023.
During the conference sessions, the delegation emphasized the need for the Arab Parliamentary Union to take a more active role in confronting Israeli occupation crimes, which are systematically committed against Palestinian civilians, especially in the Gaza Strip, where the infrastructure is being destroyed, and where children, women, hospitals, and refugee camps are being targeted.
The league reiterated, through its delegation's speeches and interventions, its steadfast positions as declared in its previous statements, strongly condemning the crimes of genocide and ethnic cleansing. It called for the accountability of the occupation in international courts, urgent action to stop the aggression, lift the siege, and ensure the protection of the Palestinian people.
Additionally, the delegation called for support for all international parliamentary initiatives that align with these positions and work towards holding the occupation accountable, and affirming the rights of the Palestinian people to freedom, return, and self-determination.
Through its participation in regional and international parliamentary forums, the league seeks to garner political and legislative support for the Palestinian cause, expose the occupation's violations, and take practical steps, including activating boycotts and empowering Palestinians with their political and human rights.
