League Sends Official Letter to Chair of UN Commission of Inquiry to Discuss Cooperation and Support International Accountability

The League of Parliamentarians for Al-Quds and Palestine has addressed an official letter to The Honorable Justice S. Muralidhar, Chair of the United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory. In the letter, the League expressed its profound appreciation for his leadership and its full readiness to establish a framework for joint cooperation to support the Commission’s efforts in investigating grave violations and achieving justice.

The League emphasized that Justice Muralidhar’s assumption of this significant international responsibility is a vital step and a source of optimism, given his legal history characterized by integrity and an honorable career dedicated to championing human rights and establishing the foundations of justice.

Furthermore, the League stressed its full awareness of the historical importance placed upon the Commission, particularly during these exceptional times. It highlighted the escalating and urgent need to enforce international humanitarian law to protect the Palestinian people amidst the ongoing war of genocide committed by the occupation.

Driven by its firm belief in the vital role of parliamentary diplomacy in supporting international legal mechanisms, the League has placed all its resources and network of relations at the disposal of the UN Commission to facilitate its mission.

The proposals for cooperation included in the letter featured:

  • Exchange of documented information and reports.

  • Organizing joint events, including parliamentary hearings and official briefings.

  • Engaging the international parliamentary community to highlight investigation findings and support the Commission’s recommendations to strengthen the path of accountability.

The League concluded its letter by valuing the Commission's independence and its decisive role in defending human rights and international law. It expressed its anticipation for a bilateral meeting with the Chair—either in person or via videoconference—to discuss the horizons of this strategic cooperation and its implementation in the service of the principles of justice.
