The League of Parliamentarians for Al-Quds and Palestine Condemns Occupation’s Passage of "Prisoner Execution Law," Warns of Grave Consequences, and Calls for Urgent International Action
The League of Parliamentarians for Al-Quds and Palestine condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the Israeli Knesset’s passage in the second and third readings of the so-called "Palestinian Prisoner Execution Law." The League considers this dangerous legislation an unprecedented escalation in occupation policies, a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, and a consolidation of a policy of revenge and physical liquidation against Palestinian prisoners.
The League emphasizes that this law cannot be separated from the broader context of the genocidal war waged by the occupation against the Palestinian people—particularly in the Gaza Strip—or from the systematic policies targeting prisoners within jails. These policies have recently escalated to include systematic torture, starvation, deliberate medical negligence, and harsh isolation, leading to the martyrdom of dozens of prisoners under tragic humanitarian conditions that amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The League views the legalization of the execution of prisoners under these inhumane conditions as a legal cover for murder within prisons. It establishes a new era of grave violations directly targeting the lives of prisoners and transforms the detention system into a tool for mass liquidation. This is a blatant violation of the right to life and the most basic standards of justice and fair trial.
Furthermore, the League warns that this law reflects a dangerous trend within the occupation government toward legitimizing killing and enshrining a discriminatory, racist system that applies penalties based on national identity. Such actions threaten to ignite the situation further and undermine any prospects for stability or peace in the region.
The League asserts that international silence—or limiting responses to verbal condemnations—constitutes indirect complicity in this crime. It encourages the occupation to persist in its violations without deterrence in the absence of genuine accountability.
The League of Parliamentarians for Al-Quds and Palestine calls upon international parliaments, human rights institutions, and the United Nations to fulfill their legal and moral responsibilities and take urgent action to:
Apply pressure to halt the implementation of this dangerous law and demand its repeal.
Provide immediate international protection for Palestinian prisoners within occupation jails.
Open independent international investigations into crimes committed against prisoners, including torture, starvation, and medical neglect.
Hold occupation leaders accountable for these policies, which amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity.
