The Colombian Congress approves the formation of a parliamentary friendship committee with the State of Palestine.

The Senate of the Republic of Colombia issued an official resolution to form a parliamentary friendship committee with the State of Palestine, under Resolution No. 456 issued on July 14, 2025, following efforts by the member of the Executive Committee of the League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds and Palestine, Senator Clara López Obregon.

The resolution, signed by the Senate President Senator Efrén José Cepeda Sarabia and his two deputies, stated that the formation of this committee is part of the efforts made by the Colombian Congress to enhance international cooperation and openness to friendly parliaments, especially in the face of common challenges that countries face in the field of public policies and human rights.

The new friendship committee will be responsible for coordinating and cooperating with the Palestinian side, aiming to enhance dialogue and exchange legislative experiences, as well as supporting international efforts to achieve peace and justice.

The committee includes 15 members from the Senate, chaired by Senator Clara Eugenia López Obregon, who has been appointed as the committee's coordinator.

The resolution confirmed that the committee will receive administrative support from the General Directorate of the Senate, and that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Palestinian Embassy in Bogotá have been officially informed of the committee's formation.

The League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds and Palestine continue its activities in parliamentary institutions and the parliaments of countries to enhance the presence of Palestine and support and advocate for the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights guaranteed by international law.

In an official letter to the Senate presidency, Senator López confirmed that this initiative has the consensus of the participating members and aims to "build bridges of parliamentary solidarity with the Palestinian people and defend their just causes, especially in the face of ongoing challenges."
