After the League's calls.. The Indonesian Parliament Speaker calls on the United Nations to take urgent action to stop the famine in Gaza

The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Dr. Puan Maharani, urgently sent a message to the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, urging immediate steps to stop the humanitarian disaster in Gaza, warning that hundreds of thousands of families, especially children, are facing an unprecedented famine due to the comprehensive blockade and continuous bombardment by the Israeli occupation.

Maharani, based on UN reports, emphasized that the situation in Gaza has reached stage five (famine) in the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, with more than 1.1 million people suffering from acute food insecurity, including half a million children in severe malnutrition, pointing out that the occupation is using starvation as a weapon of war in a blatant violation of international humanitarian law.

Guterres was called upon to officially declare a state of famine in Gaza, convene an emergency session of the Security Council, and activate Chapter VII of the UN Charter if the obstruction of aid continues, in addition to ensuring the opening of safe humanitarian corridors and reactivating the role of UNRWA and humanitarian organizations.

This step comes within the framework of the international parliamentary movement supported and coordinated by the League of Parliamentarians for Al-Quds and Palestine, which has intensified its contacts in recent weeks with parliaments to rally support for Palestine and urge them to send official messages to the UN and the international community to stop the famine and end the blockade.

The League praised the stance of the Indonesian House of Representatives, considering its message as a model of the ethical and political responsibility that legislators worldwide should undertake, reaffirming its commitment to expanding global parliamentary action to protect the Palestinian people and expose the crimes of the occupation.
